What is a Dental Emergency?

Emergencies can happen without warning, and our goal is to be here for you in your time of need. We are proud to be available 7 days a week to accommodate your dental needs.

Are you unsure if you are having a dental emergency or not? Here are some situations that will often require immediate treatment. Call our dental clinic in Vancouver right away and we will fit you into our schedule as soon as possible.

Lost Fillings or Crowns

Do your best to find and identify any broken or lost fillings. Give it a rinse and try to place it back on your tooth. Call us as soon as possible to arrange an appointment to have the filling or crown fixed.

Chipped or Broken Teeth

If you've chipped or broken a tooth and it has fallen out of your mouth, try to locate the broken piece and put it in a clean container to bring to your appointment. It is possible for your dentist to reattach it. Regardless if you find your broken tooth piece or not, contact our office right away to have it repaired.

Knocked-Out Teeth

If you're able to pick up your knocked-out tooth, rinse and hold it by the crown. Make sure not to hold it by the roots. Once you've gotten your tooth cleaned, it's best to try to re-insert it into the tooth socket by gently biting down once it is in its place. If you cannot do this, attempt to keep it moist by keeping it in a glass of milk or holding it in your mouth until you arrive at your office.

Take an over-the-counter pain medication. Do not take aspirin if you are bleeding. Apply a cold compress against your cheek where your tooth has been fractured to help reduce any pain and swelling.

Call our office as soon as possible. The sooner you can be treated after a tooth has been knocked out, the better the chance your dentist will have of saving it.

Severe Swelling, Pain or Discomfort

Are you experiencing moderate to severe swelling, pain, or discomfort in your mouth or jaw area?

Call us as soon as possible and follow these steps to alleviate pain in the meantime:

1. Apply a cold compress to your cheek, on the area where you are feeling pain.

2. Take an over-the-counter pain medication.

3. If the pain is coming from inside your mouth, use salt water to flush the area that is in pain.

Please note if the swelling is impacting your ability to breathe you should seek emergency medical care at a hospital as soon as possible.
